The Cards in the major arcana take us on what some people call "the fools journey".
We head off with little luggage, full of wonder, with a certain naivity to start on the road that will become our life.
With the magician (I) we learn to use our power of will to learn skills and bring things into existence. We turn to family, teachers and mentors, and
continue on our path of learning, both physically , mentally and spiritual. We face obstacle and hardship in the form of transition (XIII) and the tower ((XVI). We encounter happiness and
fullfillment with the star (XVII) and the world (XXI). And we find our inner calling in judgement (XX).
As you can see, the major arcana are showing the key-moments of human existence. The archetypes of our emotions, rolemodels, points-of-views...Our goals and fears, obstacles and difficulties, decisions we all will face one day along our journey.
When laying out a spread the major arcana cards pinpoint the very important, deep rooted aspects of our current situation.
If most cards in a spread are major arcana, take it as a hint that you are looking at important issues, important lessons to be learned, events that will have a long term affect on the question you have asked. It might also be helpful to fokus on the questions and lessons that these cards imply to search for guidance and direction.
If major arcana cards show up in a spread being upside down, or reversed how its often called, to me, the most sensible way of interpretating the cards is seeing it as their influence or energie is either not fully developed (yet), is blocked in some way, or the influence that card had is starting to ebb away.
Quite often it can also be seen as a hint that you are not taking enough care of that aspect of your life.
There are lots of brilliant books and webside about the tarot. And i highly recommend reading what different poeple have to say about the cards, their keywords and the meanings they find the most fitting ones. This might be confusing at first if you are new to the tarot, cause sometimes the meanings people attache to each card seem to be quite different from one book, or one person to the next.
But this shows just what it is all about- there is no right or wrong when reading the cards. You do not have to memorize someone elses lists of meanings- take what you find useful, leave what does not feel right, trust your intuition and make up your own mind. And with time you might even find that certain cards have special meanings or hold secret meanings just for you!
On these pages i try to give you a summary of the keywords that i myself find the most fitting and important ones for each of the cards.
My own way of interpretating the cards is rooted in the traditional Rider-Waite-Smith-Style. So you will find traditional keywords as well as others that i learned from my studies and found helpful aswell as some that might even be just my personal perception of what this card is to me.
Trust your intuition to guide you, tarot is a way of seeking answers within yourself, and as we each are our own unique beautiful cards, so be open to being unique and trust yourself when you start workling with the tarot!
